Annual

Ugh - today I got to experience the lovely annual PAP exam. Such a joy.

Just one more thing I can cross off the list of "things-to-do" before the IVF.

I was sitting there with the nurse, & after she took my vitals I look over & see her using a tool that measures one's BMI. Now I don't consider myself fat but I do know that I could afford to lose 10-15 lbs (thank you very much infertility hormones). So I was a bit bothered when I saw her calculate my BMI & it was 27. To top it off the tool had highlighted the word OVERWEIGHT in front of it :( Talk about a slap in the face. As if I already don't feel bad enough that IF has made me crazy & sensitive along with gaining 10 lbs in the last 2 months alone.

So after visiting with my GYN I have accepted the fact that I am overweight. According to her & this chart, I need to lose at least 15 lbs to be at a healthy BMI of 24. Question is how do I do that when we are about to start an IVF cycle? I am going to be taking tons more weight-gaining hormones & I can't do any extensive cardio this month due to my upcoming swollen ovaries so the only thing she said I could totally control was food.

So after going over some options with my Dr, I decided that tomorrow I am changing my diet & starting Weight Watchers. It's a healthier option & I did really well losing weight with WW a couple of years ago so I am hoping I can do that again. At least until we find out if this IVF cycle worked or not?!

I am going to be adding a weight loss ticker to the top of my blog so that I can be held accountable & be able to track my progress every week. So here's to losing some weight & gaining a baby :)

woah, woah, woah...slow down! Do NOT put the stress on yourself or your body to lose weight right now. If you want to go on WW to just help out a bit then I say go for it. With that being said, you have a ton on your plate right now and are just starting your cycle so no more stress is needed for you! Excuse my language, but F*** that doctor and her stupid little chart. Did you tell her what you're going through? What is 10 lbs?!?! You are beautiful and your poor body can only handle so much!

Lauren - I so appreciate your concern :) If it makes you feel better I promise I am NOT going on a crazy crash-course diet but rather changing my diet to eating less & more healthy. I guess I will have to get rid of the 3 bags of Easter candy I bought the other day?! lol

Hugs to you & thanks for looking out for me :)

Ok, whew! Whatever you want to do to make yourself feel good...I just had to jump in and say that bc you have so much going on right now! A piece of candy a day keeps a girl sane :)

I agree with Lauren! Don't stress yourself or your body out even more than it already is! I can certainly appreciate wanting to eat healthier but don't go crazy we need you getting a BFP this cycle!!
Side note from a Kinesiology/Nutrition major- BMI is a very outdated system and doesn't account for muscle mass at all. When I was at the height of my running days-40-50 miles a week and running 4 marathons a year I was on the borderline of overweight but clearly no where near it. So that that FWIW
And yes...a piece of candy DOES keep a girl sane!

i'm with lauren and michelle, take it easy on yourself! i know these cycles and hormones can be so harsh on your body but baby is what your getting out of it! a little candy here and there never hurt anyone ;)
